Why I am a Dog Training Geek

Scientific Truth

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

"Once a scientific truth has emerged from consensus of scientific experiments and observations, it is the way of the world. When different experiments give us the same results, it is no longer subject to your opinion. It's true whether or not you believe in it. That's why science works.

"You get to say the world is flat because we live in a country that guarantees free speech. It's not, however, a country that guarantees that everything you say is correct."

-Neil deGrasse Tyson

This is why positive reinforcement training, why clicker training, works. It is scientific truth. Whether or not we "believe" in using treats or rewards or psychology in dog training is irrelevant: over 100 years of science have given us the same results. It also speaks to the geek in me - embracing science as I approach dog training provides me with structure, with stability, with perspective.
